Family Engagement

Empowering Families. Stregthening Schools.

At Partners For Change, we partner with school districts to create meaningful, culturally responsive opportunities for families to connect, learn, and lead within their school communities.

At the heart of our Family Engagement Program is a simple but powerful belief: family engagement is more than just showing up—it's about making sure every family can show up.

We know that many families face real barriers to participating in school events—whether it’s language, transportation, work schedules, or feeling disconnected from the school environment. That’s why we work with schools to help reduce those obstacles and create meaningful, accessible opportunities for all families to be involved.

We also recognize that every family brings unique strengths, needs, and perspectives. That’s why we start by listening. Through surveys and open dialogue, families help shape the design of our workshops and events, ensuring they are relevant, respectful, and rooted in real-life needs.

Research shows that when families are engaged, students do better—academically, socially, and emotionally.

The Pathway to Family, School, and Community Partnership

Over the past year, Partners For Change has brought together educators, families, and community partners across our districts to co-create two key resources to strengthen family engagement: The Pathway to Family, School, and Community Partnership and a complementary School Self-Assessment Tool. This collaborative effort includes representatives from every Partners For Change partner school district, along with partners like EducateNKY and Esperanza, all working toward a shared vision of meaningful, effective partnership.

The Pathway establishes a common framework for what authentic family, school, and community partnership looks like—moving beyond participation in events to focus on shared outcomes tied directly to student success. Shaped by real input from families and community members, it reflects the belief that engagement is a shared responsibility and must be intentionally connected to learning to drive lasting impact.

To support implementation, the School Self-Assessment Tool helps schools reflect on current practices, identify strengths, and prioritize next steps. Together, these resources provide a practical, aligned approach to building stronger partnerships that improve student outcomes, strengthen school communities, and support continuous growth.
