NKU Spring Visit Day Welcomes Future College Students From River City Districts

On April 7th, sixth-grade students from Covington, Newport, Ludlow, and Dayton returned to Northern Kentucky University for a special Spring Campus Visit Day. These students, who participated in last summer’s NKU College Bound Camp, were invited back for a reunion designed to reconnect them with one another and re-engage them with college life in a meaningful and memorable way.

The day began with a high-energy marshmallow and spaghetti tower challenge, where students worked in teams to test their creativity, collaboration, and problem-solving skills. Laughter and teamwork filled the room as students leaned into the activity, building not just structures, but confidence and connection. Following the challenge, students selected from a variety of enrichment sessions tailored to their interests—offering opportunities to explore new ideas and continue learning beyond their summer experience.

To close out the day, students headed to NKU’s campus recreation center for friendly basketball games, bringing everyone together through movement, fun, and community-building. More than just a reunion, the Spring Visit Day reinforced a powerful message: these students belong on a college campus. Experiences like this help make the path to college feel real, accessible, and within reach—one step at a time.
