Ludlow SHINE Program Shined Brightly This Summer
The Ludlow SHINE program lived up to its name this summer, giving students a season filled with learning, creativity, connection, and fun. With an Under the Sea theme guiding the summer, students dove into hands-on activities, strengthened academic skills, explored new interests, built friendships, and stayed engaged while school was out.
This summer’s success was highlighted during a special visit from members of the NKY Student Success Fund Advisory Board, who toured the program to see 21st Century Community Learning Center and Partners For Change summer programming in action. The visit gave students and staff the opportunity to share all they had accomplished throughout the summer, from classroom learning and enrichment activities to creative projects and meaningful experiences tied to the Under the Sea theme.
Ludlow also welcomed Kentucky Commissioner of Education Robbie Fletcher as part of the Kentucky Department of Education’s Summer Boost Program. While the Commissioner’s visit was connected specifically to KDE’s Summer Boost initiative, it further highlighted Ludlow’s strong commitment to creating meaningful summer learning opportunities for students and families.
Ludlow was one of the schools participating in the 2026 Summer Boost: Reading and Mathematics Program, which supported literacy and math learning during the summer months. As part of the program, families received free books to take home, helping extend learning beyond the classroom and encouraging students to keep reading, practicing math, and exploring new ideas at home.
The program was also strengthened by the support of community partners, including Baker Hunt, who helped bring engaging, creative learning experiences to students throughout the summer. These partnerships played an important role in making SHINE a well-rounded program where students could learn, create, explore, and connect in meaningful ways.
Together, these opportunities reflected what made SHINE so special. The program not only helped students continue learning during the summer, but also created a joyful, supportive environment where they could grow, connect, and build confidence. Ludlow SHINE showed once again how powerful summer learning can be when schools, families, and community partners work together to help students succeed.
