Mission Possible: Families Crack the Code at Ninth District Elementary in Covington
As part of the Camp Covington: Mission Possible – Detect, Decode, Discover summer program, Ninth District Elementary School invited families to become detectives for the day, learning alongside their students during a one-of-a-kind Family Engagement Escape Room.
Throughout the day, families signed up for 30-minute mission times, joining students in classrooms transformed into interactive escape rooms. The adventure began with a special video message from the Director of the Ninth District Intelligence Agency—better known during the school year as Principal Rachel Jenkins! After receiving their mission, each family worked together to solve a series of age-appropriate word games, puzzles, and clues. Every challenge unlocked another box, bringing them one step closer to completing their mission before time ran out.
More than just a fun activity, the escape room was a meaningful example of family engagement in action. Parents and caregivers worked side-by-side with their students, using communication, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills in a school setting. The excitement in each room was contagious as families celebrated every clue they solved and every lock they opened together.
The experience was thoughtfully designed by 21st Century Community Learning Center Site Coordinator Jennifer Simmons, who carefully created puzzles that were both engaging and appropriately challenging. By blending literacy, teamwork, and hands-on learning, the event demonstrated how meaningful family partnerships can strengthen learning and create lasting connections between home and school.
Ninth District's Mission Possible Escape Room was a wonderful reminder that some of the best learning happens when families are invited to discover, solve, and celebrate together.
